There are many, many different ways to combine the twenty six letters of the alphabet and make up a new word. Why is it, then, that so many parts of our vocabulary look and sound so similar, while meaning completely different things? It’s bad enough when we trip over ourselves when talking, but it’s even easier to do when we’re typing something out. This can get us in some embarrassing predicaments, especially when we’re meant to be acting as professionals.
One person who ended up having an inappropriate ordeal with wordplay lately was Valerie Earnshaw, who made an unwelcome realization recently while reviewing her resume. Sharing the blush-worthy typo to Twitter, she attracted numerous replies offering advice to try and stop it happening again — as well as others sharing their own examples of times that their typing skills went awry. Some of these could have led to a few sticky situations.
