It’s my favorite holiday of the year, Spotify Wrapped. It’s the time when we all get to be a little nostalgic about our own lives (one of my favorite modes) and remember how we felt, what went down, and what we sang from the rooftops. Music is an important marker of time. I’m an especially neurotic music listener who makes a playlist every month with the corresponding number of songs for the number of days in the month. So I could go back and tell you what March 2021 sounded like versus June 2016. It’s like a musical diary. Listening to them brings up powerful sense memories and bring me back to the textures of the past.

So if playlists are like diaries, then Spotify Wrapped is like the ultimately indulgent act of reading your own diaries. I think that’s why people get so cynical about posting them. But I for one relish in them, so here are some of the best memes from this year’s wrapped.
