Bears have so much positive representation in the media: it’s a shame that they rip people to shreds in real life. We’ve got Baloo, the bear in The Jungle Book, who teaches the man-cub Mowgli about being a fun-loving, freewheeling guy who only needs the bare necessities of life. There’s also that chill-as-h*ll polar bear in all of the Christmas Coca-Cola commercials whose only nutritional need seems to be brown cola. The titular three bears didn’t even stand up to Goldilock’s tyranny, let alone throw her into the oven and make her greedy self into porridge. Unfortunately, bears in real life are much more like the ones depicted in Grizzly Man and Cocaine Bear than in any of these idealized depictions of the animal.
