If you weren’t in Elementary school in the aughts, you have no idea how brutal the rivalries between Harry Potter fans and Percy Jackson fans got. I had not read either series back then, so I was watching a battle of nerdy children playing out before my eyes. It was clear that the Harry Potter kids were working at an advantage. Their movies were way better, they had more books, and their series came first. It always seemed like Percy Jackson fans were playing on defense, desperately trying to prove that their middle-grade fiction was not only equal to Harry Potter but superior. Even though Harry Potter has won in terms of cultural relevance, I’m not so sure that its series will live up to what Disney+ has been serving up for the half-bloods who aren’t Snape.
