You can have all the grand ideas in the world about parenting before you’re a parent. You think about how cool and chill you will be, and how you’ll avoid all the mistakes your parents made. I’ll never park my kids in front of an iPad, you think. I’ll let them stay up late and eat junk food. Because you remember what it felt like to be a kid. But once you’re actually a parent, it’s easy for all your best laid to go straight out the window.
