30 of the Best Dungeons and Dragons Memes of the Week (February 23, 2024)

How did dragons become such a part of the lore of so many cultures throughout time, so much so that some folks don’t quite know that they’re not real? Who first came up with the idea of a dragon? A quick Wikipedia search yields this:

«Draconic creatures are first described in the mythologies of the ancient Near East and appear in ancient Mesopotamian art and literature. Stories about storm gods slaying giant serpents occur throughout nearly all Near Eastern and Indo-European mythologies.»

Man, I love Wikipedia. But it’s still confounding to me how much this idea took root. We’re still talking about, creating depictions of, and telling stories about dragons well into the 21st century. We even have a whole game that’s based in part on their existence (the subject of this very meme list.) I guess they’re just really compelling creatures. I mean they do breathe fire after all. That’s pretty cool.
