‘Showgirls used to scare me bc I thought she was a big worm’: Nostalgic millennials share the VHS covers from the 80s and 90s that terrified them as kids

Being a kid is a trip in many different ways. It’s easy to forget how un-used we were to the world back in those days. When you’re young, even the simplest things can seem overwhelming so it’s no wonder that the media we consume can make an even bigger impact in these vulnerable years. For all of Gen Alpha, this probably takes the shape of all the YouTube brainrot they consume as iPad kids. For those who remember Blockbuster, though, things were a little more analog.

We can file movie posters and artwork under yet more things they don’t make like they used to, as proven by a recent Twitter thread. Asking kids of the 80s and 90s to share the VHS covers that used to really freak them out, there were an array of understandable and sometimes humorous responses. Some of these pictures didn’t need to go as hard as they did.
