You can’t take something in fully if you don’t spend any time with it. There’s a reason why experts in niche subjects spend nearly all of their time reading, learning, and thinking about them….they’re not going to be able to become experts if they’re only reading one book a week on the subject. I’m not saying to have any level of competence in a subject, you must turn into a grad student in humanities, but it would serve you well to spend more time with and think about said subjects with some level of frequency. 

This goes for the Civil War, the JFK assassination, and any other historical topic your dad is obsessed with, but it can also apply to memes! Take these memes in, think about why they exist and what messages they explicitly or implicitly communicate. Who knows, you might end up learning a thing or two.
