A Platter Of Memes For Some Light Grazing

If spending our childhoods glued to the TV all day ended up giving us square eyes, then the fact that our adulthood is dominated by staring at screens of all sizes for entertainment must mean that our whole damn nervous system has gone square by now. Our internet addictions have probably altered the course of human evolution in scary ways that we’re not yet quite aware of, but that doesn’t mean that we’re about to stop any time soon. For starters, that would mean that we would have to give up memes, and there’s no way in hell that most of us are prepared to do that. They are something that we turn to when we’re sad, or lonely, or just plain bored, and the only thing that they expect in return is our temporary attention. Sure, the minutes might add up, but they’re a small price to pay. We’re already just a load of big old squares anyway.
