Author criticizes reader for borrowing his book from the library: ‘It’s even better when you buy, not borrow, your copy’

I don’t think there are any institutions closer to universal goods than libraries. They provide a space for people of all ages to congregate for free and give them the resources necessary to better themselves. I spent so much of my time in high school and college in school libraries, and I was so much better for it. They gave me a quiet place to get my schoolwork done, free from distractions, and I loved being surrounded by so many books.

Unfortunately, not everybody sees libraries as inherently benevolent institutions; even people who directly benefit from libraries dislike them. Recently, a man went viral for tweeting at an author that he was enjoying his book. When the author saw that he had checked out the book from the library, he criticized him for not buying it. OF course, the library did buy his book, but that clearly wasn’t enough for him.
