No matter what diehard fans everywhere would like to think, Disney can be an acquired taste. Mickey Mouse and reimagined fairytales aren’t everybody’s idea of fun. If there’s one Disney story that almost anyone can enjoy, though, it has to be The Lion King. The heart-wrenching family drama which is basically Bambi in Sub-Saharan Africa has touched the hearts of millions of different people.

This is with good reason; with so many memorable characters and tunes, it’s no wonder that the movie, theater shows, and yes, even its spinoffs have stood the test of time with the ultimate joy that they bring. It also makes them great meme fuel, and there are a healthy helping of humorous images out there that take inspiration from Simba and co. If the recycling of movie frames for the sake of memes isn’t the circle of life, then it’s hard to say what is.
