Grown-Up Indie Head Dad Seeks Songs to ‘Comfort a Middle-Aged, Disillusioned Suburban Husband/Father’ and the Internet Delivers

Listening to music hits differently at every stage of life. When you’re a rebellious teen who never thinks they’ll get old, then you’re going to want music that reflects that confusing and wild time. As you age you might deal with more difficult things, and your taste in music will reflect that. So it only makes sense that once you’ve become a parent and started to follow a completely different path than your younger self, your taste in music will also change. But just because your priorities have changed and you’re a parent, doesn’t mean you have to listen to the music your parents listened to. There isn’t like a certain type of music parents can only listen to. (Duh!)

One former-indie head now grown-up suburban father loves his new priorities. His healthy relationship with his loving wife is very important to him and his kids are the world time him. He even is stoked on his full time job. But he feels weird going from sticking it to society to being a helpful cog in its wheels. He always turned to music to help sift through his emotions, but the indie music of his youth doesn’t hit as hard. So he turned to Reddit to broaden his playlist.

And oooh baby did the internet deliver! From The Growlers to David Byrne, this is an epic playlist for any cool dad!
