There are two kinds of social rules: rules in the regular world and rules at the airport. When you’re in the regular world, it might not be as socially acceptable to walk around in public wearing what looks like the laziest of clothes (personally, I still wear sweats and PJs outside but people do look at me strangely). It also might not be as socially acceptable to grab a drink at 10am in the morning or to lie on the dirty carpeted floor. 

But as I said, rules are different in the airport. As soon as you walk through the doors to enter the terminal, it’s like Dorothy arriving in Oz. Everything is different and you are not in Kansas anymore. Your are beholden to TSA agents on the security line, who may make your life easy or difficult depending on how irritated you are. You are also beholden to prices that are so astronomical you’d think you’re in space. Why does a tiny sandwich cost $17 and why did it take 45 minutes to prepare? The math simply does not add up, right? But like I said, everything is different at the airport, including math.

Even recently, I was boarding a flight and I was in one of the last boarding groups (because of course I was), and all of a sudden the gate agent decided to do away with the groups and to board everyone at once. It was truly the Wild West, and while I was surprised, it also completely tracked with how ridiculous life is at the airport.
