Everything I know about the UK, I learned from Harry Potter. Well, maybe not everything, but I did learn about the concept of prefects from this series. In the Harry Potter universe, school prefects are far from a nefarious group. They might act as an obstacle for Harry and his friends to get into hijinks, but other than that, they’re pretty neutral. They’re nothing like the prefects in another British boarding school movie called If…. (1968). Similar to Harry Potter, the movie follows some teen boys who are always getting into trouble. Instead of their behavior being enabled by their headmaster, the prefects are the disciplinarians at their school. I will never forget the scene where the prefects beat up Malcolm McDowell and his friends as an official form of punishment. Both If…. and Harry Potter ends with a battle at their school, both epic in very different ways. If you could do without Percy Weasley types and all of the annoying prefects at your school, these Harry Potter memes will transport you to Hogwarts.
