The only thing more embarrassing than being in love is looking for it. This mean having to admit that a. we’re lonely, and b. we’re willing to entertain the BS of dealing with other people to stop that being the case. While the reward is worth the effort in the end, putting in the effort is often not a fun thing to do.

These days, this is partly down to the peculiar circle of hell that is dating apps. The way that finding a partner has been boiled down to endless swipes on these online meat markets is depressing in abstract, and even worse when you’re experiencing it directly. It’s possible to get lucky, but it’s also more than likely that you have to have some deeply unpleasant encounters first. 

On the plus side, the worst sides of Tinder et al remind us that even if we come off as unattractive to others, we’re no competition to some of these douchebags. Surely things don’t always have to be this way.
