Welp, it happened. I watched The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power. And despite my low hopes (which have nothing to do with the cast) and disdain for Amazon, I really, really enjoyed the first two episodes. They were beautiful, compelling, and exciting – and Galadriel is nothing short of a badass. As a huge fan of the incredible trilogy from Peter Jackson (not The Hobbit, y’all), it’s easy to be skeptical of new media that is based on Tolkien’s work. And while we can’t say it measures up completely, it’s doing a damn good job of getting close. It’s also doing a damn good job of inspiring meme creators, who have been hard at work, using images from the new series to make jokes about the series as well as jokes about the relatable occurrences of everyday life. We can’t help what the people meme, but we can always make sure there’s enough Gandalf, Aragorn, and Gimli to keep people happy.
