‘Why can’t you be more like your brother/sister?’: People share tasteless questions adults ask children

It’s no secret that many adults do not know how to interact with children appropriately. I might be one of them because I forget that swearing is not a socially acceptable thing to do in front of an elementary schooler more often than I’d like to admit (sorry, kids who’ve overheard my conversations on the subway). That being said, that doesn’t mean that we as adults can’t grow, learning what is and isn’t okay to ask a kid.

There are many things you shouldn’t say to kids that seem like common sense but are unfortunately not. It would be best if you didn’t compare kids to each other, saying that one is inadequate because they’re not like the other. You shouldn’t spoil fun childish things like Santa Claus or B-list figures like the Easter Bunny. Redditors came together to share questions an adult should never ask a kid, and we should all take notes.
