‘You have to be a real supervillain to defend this company’: Influencer Gets Slammed For PR Trip to Shein Factory in China

The opinion that fast fashion is a generally Bad Thing should not be that controversial. Sure, it’s the only clothing that many can afford, but that doesn’t mean that we should be white knighting for it in the face of flagrant sweatshop usage and a truly insane carbon footprint

However, it seems like somebody needs to sit down and tell the influencers that. A group of these social media casualties have gone viral recently for all the wrong reasons, thanks to a dystopian PR trip taken to a Shein factory in China.

One of the people who has faced particular scrutiny is @itsdanidmc. In her video of the experience, she boasted about her open-mindedness and independent thinking. She also interviewed a factory worker and investigative journalist who claimed that she was ‘very surprised at all the rumors being spread in the US’.

Twitter wasted no time in critiquing the audacious PR move, prompting an extended discussion on why the self-proclaimed ‘confidence influencer’ wasn’t given the whole truth. Realistically speaking, most of us are going to take advantage of the cheapness and convenience of fast fashion giants now and then. It doesn’t mean we should accept disinformation as blatant as this, though.
