If you happen to be feeling down right now, I have some good news. Today is pizza’s birthday! Well, the closest we’re going to get to it, anyway. For hundreds upon hundreds of years, this delicious all-in-one meal has been delighting the tastebuds of people the world over. It’s difficult to find anybody who doesn’t like tomato paste and cheese cooked on top of dough, or some variation on it. We’ve got to hand it to the Italians: pizza truly is the food of the everyman. 

From the humble dollar slice to the woodfired beauties they serve in fancy pizzerias, there is a kind of pizza out there to satisfy all kinds of needs. It makes for some great memes, too, thanks to its huge popularity. If you’re tossing up whether you really want that quinoa salad for dinner tonight, perhaps it’s time to give in to an unhealthy alternative. It’s time to celebrate National Pizza Day.
