Growing up, Hollywood and school books taught us that Medusa was a female beast who turned men into stone simply because she was a monster. However, her story is much more tragic. You should really do your own research, but long story short: She was taken advantage of, cursed by a wrathful Athena (who Medusa worshipped), then banished. The Percy come in like he’s a hero, but really he’s just taking advantage of a woman while she’s down and making her destiny a horrid one.
