Happy Thursday, everybody! One of my best friends recently went through a Thursday-related travesty that I would love to share with y’all. My friend, let’s call her Janet, has a coworker who is also named Janet. One fateful Thursday, the coworker Janet came up to my friend and said, «Happy Friday Jr. Janet!» Not exactly registering the true day of the week or the exact meaning of this statement, she responded, «Happy Friday, Senior Janet,» because the coworker Janet was older than her. It came as a major shock when she learned that some people call Thursday «Friday Junior» in an attempt to make the weekend feel closer. Before hearing about this interaction secondhand, I had never heard the phrase «Friday Junior.» If you were previously unaware, hopefully, this will serve as a cautionary tale against the cutesy day-of-the-week nicknames.
