Despite the fact that we spend so much time looking at memes, I feel like we don’t appreciate the people behind them enough. Meme creators may be responsible for one of the lowest common denominator art forms, but that doesn’t mean we should overlook their talents. It takes real skill to combine a joke and a visual in such a way that it will get shared and reshared until it becomes a part of internet legend (and perhaps even remixed, if it’s that way inclined).

While not all memes will go down in the history books, it serves our best interests of rabid meme consuming to act as if many of them are. It encourages the wacky and bold individuals who do the service of making them to create even more to feed us with. We all have to do our part to keep this delicate ecosystem going, you know.
