If we counted up all the hours of escapism that memes have provided people over the course of their existence, it would probably take up a pretty long period of human history. If there’s one thing that a large amount of people today really, really love, it’s scrolling through a load of random images containing varying degrees of humor.

To those who remain steadfastly offline, it probably seems odd that this is how so many choose to spend their time with an alarming amount of frequency. For the rest of us, though, it’s just the  way that things have been for time immemorial.

For now, it looks like things are going to stay the same. There are still many more memes to be made, and many more for us to appreciate with what precious time we have. Will the majority of them be memorable, or even make any kind of impact? Probably not, so it’s just as well that they make up for it in quantity.
