When nothing else seems to be going right, it’s nice to know that memes still have our back. As the official language of the alternative point of view, they’re very good at reminding us that nothing is ever perfect, even when we really want it to be. There always has to be something behind the scenes that goes pear shaped.

This is part of the reason why memes have become so popular, because the most relatable ones reflect this sad but accurate truth in a way that makes it seem a little better. No other communicative method out there does it with as much pizzazz, so we keep on coming back.

It’s perhaps not a great thing that we’re all able to condense our feelings into snappy punchlines and dumb images, but at least it makes the human condition feel a bit more stylish. That’s a good enough reason to keep using memes.
