‘Maybe Katie shouldn’t have been so candid’: 6-year-old has choice words for adult who tries to speak to her using baby talk

Baby talk: why do we do it? Why is there such a naturally honed instinct to speak to babies (and animals) with high-pitched voices and made-up words that don’t quite make sense? Where does that practice originate and why? I may never know, but it’s something that most of us do, even without meaning to. I almost always do it with dogs, which I guess is okay because they can’t talk back. But do it to a child who’s a little too old to hear it, and be prepared to face the insult of a lifetime.

The old adage goes, «Kids say the darndest things,» and boy is it true. They haven’t had time to develop a filter, so they just say the first thing that flies into their mouths. It can be pretty hilarious and equally devastating. Those two things happened in equal measure in this recent Reddit story, where a 6-year-old put an adult woman in her place. Read the story below.
