One of the greatest things about folklore is the endless creativity it displays. They can be a huge, water dwelling dinosaur, à la the Loch Ness Monster, or a glowing eyed winged humanoid like the Mothman. Alternatively, they could just be a big old hairy guy that looks like an overgrown gorilla and is easy to dress up as to scare people, like Bigfoot.

A heavyweight of North American mythology, Bigfoot or the Sasquatch is so famous that it’s never far from the mind of anyone visiting the forests of the continent. Reported sightings are a cultural mainstay, and it was about time we received another one — which has come in the form of a video from the Rocky Mountain Sasquatch Organization. They present the 4.7 second long footage, which was taken in Michigan, as part of a longer video explaining its context. It shows a large, brown figure crossing a river holding what appears to be a baby or small animal. 

While the narrator of the video remained open minded about whatever had been seen in the water, most viewers remained far from convinced of the purported sighting. Many claimed it was easy to see that the figure was wearing some sort of costume, or would look very different actually up close. Nonetheless, the footage has grabbed no small amount of attention. It proves that whatever we think about popular folklore, many of us are still intrigued about the idea of bumping into something creepy in the woods.
