‘That 80-year-old woman’s door was opened by a 6’3 man’: Former delivery driver shares scary stories of male customers pretending to be women

I find it funny that we rarely contemplate the strangeness of apps like Uber or Doordash. We pay strangers to drive to our houses and drop off our persons or food directly at our doors. It might be old hat to say that when we were kids, our parents told us never to get in strangers’ cars, and now we pay money to ride in the backseat of strangers’ cars, but it’s true!

Being the customer of these transactions can be incredibly strange, but what about being the driver? They must go near strangers’ homes who know they are coming and could easily take advantage of them depending on the circumstances. One former food delivery driver shared the experiences that led her to quit Doordashing for good. Spoiler alert: they both involve male customers pretending to be home-bound women who can’t walk outside to get the food they ordered. Super scary.
