‘That’s such a Hufflepuff thing to say’: Harry Potter fans and haters react to Miriam Margolyes criticizing adult Harry Potter obsessives

When it comes to the Millennial legacy, there is one thing that will give avocado toast a run for its money. It’s the fact that this group is one of the first to be such devoted fans of their favorite childhood media when they grow up. I know there probably are some Boomers who are devoted Disney adults, but it has been the iPhone generation who really made this a common phenomenon.

It goes without saying that Harry Potter is one of the entertainment franchises that has grown far beyond its suggested reading age, but this isn’t without controversy. The latest has come from Professor Sprout actor Miriam Margolyes, who commented in a recent interview that she felt adult fans of the series «should be over it by now».

While some applauded her blunt opinion, it’s no surprise that it also ruffled some feathers. If we’re being honest, it’s hardly likely to make a massive dent in the behemoth that is the Hogwarts-orientated fandom.
