Oh, to be a 19 year old college student again. That frontal cortex is so beautifully underdeveloped. So many bad decisions are yet to be made, partly because the next drink is always around the corner. Also, it’s a horrifying revelation how many people the same age have apparently zero idea about cleaning up after themselves. 

Seriously, most teenager moms have got to be harboring some heroic levels of resentment. Every year, countless youths move away from home for the first time to reveal to their unfortunate (but often equally oblivious) roommates that they are lazy and disgusting to live with. 

When I was younger, I prided myself on not being as shamelessly dirty as some of my peers. However, I had a much more, uh, liberal idea of how often to take the trash out than I do now. Even for those who have been partially housebroken, learning to be responsible for one’s living space is not always an easy ride. 

Nonetheless, it would be nice to think that something would be done before things got to the level of a house tour video that has been dividing opinions on Twitter. Inhabited by several college-aged boys, it might be possible to smell the living room through a screen. Nobody was impressed by it, but some had more sympathy for the mess than others. 

While I have been lucky enough to avoid living somewhere quite as awful as this, I’ve spent many a house party or ill-fated one night stand in similar humble abodes. Whenever I feel sad about my early adult years being behind me, a trip down memory lane to where trash gets used as carpet is enough to stop it in its tracks.
