One of our culture’s strongest binaries is dog people vs. cat people. The war between the two factions is often vitriolic, with little room for understanding on either side. And it can feel like once you pick a side, you’re set for life. I’ve staunchly planted my flag in Dog Town for decades. But what happens when your heart starts to open to another world?

My roommate recently adopted a cat, which means that I now have a cat in my apartment. And in spite of my previous loyalties, I love her. The way she chases around the laser pointer… gets me. Does that make me a traitor? If it does, then I’m not sure I want to be playing this game anymore. I can fan two fires at once, and look good doing it. But dogs will remain my first love, and their memeability holds strong. So let’s give up the war, folks, and just enjoy some memes.
