I’ve been hearing about «the male loneliness epidemic» a lot recently. A lot of people rag on it, saying it’s a slippery slope into incel ideology, but I disagree. I think we’re kidding ourselves if we think that loneliness isn’t a structural problem that hurts the lives of many men and women. Once you become an adult, you aren’t exactly thrust into a world where making friends is the easiest thing in the world. During your childhood and young adulthood, you are constantly surrounded by people your own age, and once you get into the real world, that social safety net (the non-economic kind) goes away. The only reason I had friends in high school and college was that I went to big schools that facilitated those friendships. Nobody deserves to be friendless, so if you’re seeking a friend, not for the end of the world, but for today, these funny memes can temporarily fill that void.
