One day, we are going to have to accept that very few memes are truly original. At this point, most of them feed off a few dumb references that have been around for years, or are knockoffs of other, better executed jokes. If we’re honest with ourselves, most of us, memers included, do not have a lot of original thoughts most of the time. That’s ok, though! We are more simple than we like to think. Ninety percent of the time, the same thing regurgitated over and over again is exactly what we want. It’s overwhelming to challenge our basic brains too much. It’s much nicer for us to just settle down and enjoy the repetition in slightly different forms. You never know, in amidst all the same things in slightly different packages, we might come across some innovation. It’s all part of the long haul meme game, my friends.
