The Tale of the Haunted Meme, Part II.

Bill was just a regular guy who visited the same few websites on occasion. Nothing too crazy. Before starting work in the morning, he’d do a quick Twitter scroll. Then, at lunch, Bill would refresh his favorite subreddits in case he missed anything from the day before. One of Bill’s go-to subs was r/dankmemes, and although it was fairly safe-for-work, Bill had a habit of only scrolling the sub during his bathroom breaks just in case something offensive popped up (he was extra cautious that way).

On one particularly nice day, Bill merrily headed to the bathroom for one of his epic r/dankmemes sessions. As he settled into the stall and started browsing the subreddit, he landed on one peculiar meme. It was a meme he’d seen about a thousand times. There was seemingly nothing special about this meme—just another trite relatable joke about sleeping through your alarm in the morning—and yet it called to Bill and demanded his attention. Bill felt himself becoming more and more fatigued—for he had been bewitched by the haunted meme.
