Once upon a time, there was a grumpy old man who never had any fun on the internet. No matter how hard his kids tried to help him understand how to use email and Facebook, he just didn’t get it, nor did he have any interest in trying to. 

«But dad,» his kids would say, «don’t you want to like and comment on all the things we post about our lives?» 

«Hell no!» The old man would say to his kids. «Why would I do that when you can just tell me? I don’t give a shit about where you went to go get pizza last night or whose house you were at for brunch on Sunday.» Defeated, his kids left it alone and decided never to force him to use Facebook again unless he asked. 

Then one day, while trying to remember the web address he had to type to get to his email, he came across a link to a website called SomethingAwful. «Hmm, something awful? Now that sounds intriguing!» The old man thought to himself. Twelve hours later, at 4AM, he texted his kids, «the things I’ve seen on the internet…the things I’ve seen…» Panicked, one of his kids called him, thinking he’d gotten into a political argument with someone in a Facebook group.

«Are you okay, dad? What did you see?!» The man’s son asked. 

The old man replied, «you never told me the internet could be so…based! Have you ever heard of shitposting?»
