Law-Breaking Boss Bans Employee From Talking About Being Gay

Homophobia in the workplace can be incredibly stressful. Having to deal with people who are hostile to your existence in a place you must go to almost every day harms your state of mind, and nobody should have to deal with that. That’s why there are laws to protect minority groups from discrimination in the workplace. However, standing up for yourself when an employer breaks the law is easier said than done. Redditors of r/antiwork can scream, «Get a lawyer» until the cows come home, but I’d wager that most people prioritize keeping their job over getting justice for a misdoing. One Redditor shared her story of her boss not only requiring her to come in 15 minutes early for every shift but also forbidding her from talking about being gay after a curious coworker, an East African man with limited experience interacting with the LGBT community, asked her questions about it.
