It might sound ungrateful to complain about having a job or a career these days. So many people in the United States have lost their employment opportunities thanks to Covid-19, and the jobs that are left are pretty damn unsavory. While workers are starting to demand respect and better pay from their employers (thanks to the antiwork movement) we are far from being in a better, more egalitarian and kind place where work is concerned. Hell, some people in Washington don’t even think we deserve paid parental leave. But we’re still expected to keep trudging through the drudgery, through pandemics, miscarriages, deaths and sometimes even through natural disasters (we’re looking at you, Amazon). And what can we do? We have to pay the bills. We have to eat. And we have to keep a roof over our heads. That said, we definitely don’t like it – and that sentiment is very present in these work memes.
