As a woman in her mid-thirties, the number of ads I get for anti-aging miracles is pretty preposterous. They even rival ads for egg-freezing services. Unfortunately, for most of my life, I’ve been largely ignorant of the importance of a solid skincare routine. Though my genetics have treated me well up til now, my skin is often dull, the fine lines are starting to form and I still get the occasional breakout. 

As the reality of my mortality and aging skin started nagging at me, I started dabbling in the skincare realm about a year ago. Lemme tell ya, it’s been an expensive and dubiously successful journey, largely because consistency and routines aren’t really my thing. But when I stick to it, I can see results. And so can my friends. «You’re glowing,» they say, when I’ve been dutifully drinking water and collagen, and putting various serums, creams, and Tretinoin on my lil ol’ face. I owe all of the glow to the skincare enthusiasts of the Internet, who are incredibly happy to offer tips regarding what to use – and what not to use – on one’s skin.

While I appreciate their help, the best part of my skincare journey has been actually being able to understand the references I see in memes about dermatological concerns and beauty regimens. As is the case with most niche interests, there’s actually a wealth of memes out there for skincare aficionados. And I’m here to share some of the funnier ones with you.
