Satirical Video About the ‘Personality Hire’ Sparks Dialogue About Roles in the Workplace

While my employment history is a checkered one, I have noticed that some trends reoccur no matter what job I am doing. The most prominent of these are the different types of coworker that I come across at work. It seems like every workplace has the joker, who can’t go five minutes without trying to distract someone. There’s also the person whose primary duty seems to be kissing the backsides of their superiors. Then, of course, there are the many who are just trying to get through another day in one piece.

Out of all the different types of employees in the world, some of the most impactful are what social media deems the ‘personality hires’. They might not work the hardest or even have much technical know-how, but their soft skills are a masterclass in how to win friends and influence people. When a TikTok sketch depicting this kind of person went viral on Twitter (post here), a discussion was had about the upsides and downsides of these particular individuals. At least you can usually trust them to be nice.
