Shady Landlord Meekly Refuses To Fix Tenant’s Heat Until Next Year

Heat and AC are two very different entities depending on the city and situation you live in. I’m from an area of Texas where basically no buildings from before 1970 exist, and consequentially, it’s Air Conditioning Town USA. Every school, store, and home I ever went into during the summer months was being pumped with so much AC, I was constantly freezing my ass off. In NYC, most tenants have to buy their own AC unit, and it is not legally required for landlords to provide air conditioning even during the hottest months of the summer, especially if you live in an older building. That obviously doesn’t go the same for heat. Apartments need heat during the winter. It’s pretty unsafe for people to be living and sleeping in extremely cold apartments, so if your landlord takes too long to fix it, that could be a case for the city.
