Older people love to lecture teenagers about their laziness, but I think that couldn’t be further from the truth. Sure, there are always some bad apples who couldn’t care less about working hard at school, work, or extracurricular activities, but I would argue that more is expected of teens now than ever before. They have to have ten times better grades than kids did in the 80s in order to get into a good college, or into any college at all. Kids can’t even do things like sports or music in school without adults constantly pushing them to be the best. I know y’all all probably think that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are just a bunch of Tik-Tok guzzling nere-do-wells, but if you actually take the time to get to know them, you’ll see that’s not the case. An old list of «rules» recently recirculated, regurgitating all of the «realities» oldies love to tell youngsters, and you’ll find that it’s a deeply cynical read.
