There’s a lot to love about Baldur’s Gate 3. The complex custom characterization options and RPG systems. Interesting companions with unique personalities. The hilarious dialogue. The fact that you can compliment any cat you come across. And of course, it really does feel like a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. In fact, one problem some players have been experiencing with Baldur’s Gate 3 is that it’s too mechanically true to the way D&D is supposed to be played—sorry, but there’s no dungeon master built into the game who will hand-wave away your bad dice rolls! 5e fans will just have to cope. More than anything, it’s amazing to see that such a niche, risky, and ambitious game can achieve such a massive positive response in so little time. Hopefully this means developers will continue to strive to make games of this quality.
