J. R. R. Tolkien is a dude who always gets me thinking about the idea of legacy. You can spend your whole life perfecting and adding to the things that you would like to be remembered for, then after death you get thrown a huge curveball in how they get perceived. In his case, he created one of the most famous series of fantasy novels of all time just for them to be boiled down to endless examples of silly internet memes.

We’re not saying this like it’s something bad, though. Half the reason that Lord of the Rings and its offshoots inspire this is because the fandom is so dedicated to the rich storytelling and characterization that has been carried through the books and movies. All the best fan communities have a good sense of humor, and Tolkien heads are up there with the best. Guess it’s time to honor that with even more memes.
