Wacky Chinese McDonald’s Menu Translations Amuse Twitter

Translation is an art form. All different languages and cultures have varied ways of expressing themselves, and capturing that while making the text make sense is no mean feat. While online translation tools have come on from leaps and bounds since the days when young millennials used to try and cheat on their Spanish homework with them, they can’t make up for everything. This was something that @HarrysBadTweets found out to his amusement when viewing the menu for Chinese McDonald’s through Google Translate. Pretty run-of-the-mill food items became a whole lot more interesting, and they tickled everyone else on Twitter, too. It led to a thread of funny reactions and other interesting examples of food translation gone wrong. Sure, a big corporation like McDonald’s probably had an English language menu, but where is the fun in that? Besides, this peculiar wording gives an interesting lesson in how another language works.
