Here’s an opinion that might be controversial: I think one of the best things about having any pet is the responsibility that it entails. They don’t care if you’ve had a lousy day. They’ve just pooped on the carpet and now they’re demanding to be fed. It’s good to be humbled sometimes. 

While cats are generally seen as lower maintenance than their canine counterparts, their attitude when insisting on their needs being met more than makes up for it. This is exactly why we love them, for better or worse.

It’s also part of the reason that they are such a fantastic inspiration for memes. All their goofy exploits are only made even funnier when they collide with the vast and sprawling world of internet humor. They’ve been at the forefront of animal memes for decades, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. We’ve got to be glad of that.
