When Frozen first came out in the winter of 2013, I could tell that it was going to be an all-encompassing cultural phenomenon, at least amongst pre-schoolers. I believe that the reason why Frozen has so much staying power is because kids love angst. You heard that right! Elsa has a level of angst about her situation that rivals Ariel’s in The Little Mermaid, and that’s why kids want to be her. Sure, she’s glamorous, but so is Sleeping Beauty. She’s got a banger of a song, but so does Pocahontas. Elsa is magical, angsty, and a belter, and very few princesses (or queens, for that matter) achieve all three.
