I love Getty Images. Similar to Wikipedia, it’s one of those places that’s such a treasure trove of random tidbits you can spend hours entertaining yourself with it. It’s also one of the few reliable sources for unretouched and natural photos of celebrities, and perhaps best of all, it’s one of the most hilarious sources of reaction images on the internet today.

However, it’s not so often you see this snowball into a bonafide meme, as has been happening over the past few days on Twitter with a retro image of Kevin James. The actor and comedian has previously enamored meme makers everywhere with his Paul Blart: Mall Cop movies, but this new phenomenon goes even further back in his career.

Using a Getty watermarked promotional photograph from sitcom The King of Queens, James is shown shrugging and smirking at the camera. This mildly cringey excerpt from the nineties time capsule has come to represent everything from feeling unjustified self-confidence to mild embarrassment. It’s kind of wild how one image can be used to represent so much about the human condition, but that’s the creativity of the internet for you. It’s become so popular that people have started using other awkward promo photos of James, too.
