I’ve loved watching the evolution of Harry Potter video games over the years. Even if you were a child of the aughts and grew up with the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone PS1 game, you can’t let nostalgia cloud your perceptions. Those games were extremely rough, and no amount of funny Hagrid graphics and goofy British voiceover can fix that. Hogwarts Legacy was received so well and for a good reason. In my honest opinion, it is the only one that thoroughly makes you feel immersed in the world of Hogwarts as if you were a student in the late 1800s before all of that Voldemort and Fantastic Beasts nonsense came up. I don’t need to be Harry, Ron, or Hermione to have a positive Harry Potter gaming experience. I would much rather scroll through Harry Potter memes and Tumblr posts than do 2001-era wizard battles on a dated PS1.
