Memes can mean all kinds of different things to us, depending on where we’re at and what we’re feeling. Sometimes, they are deeply relatable to a situation that affects us in our everyday lives. Other times they serve to troll us, or make us angry; others still we can even learn something from. However, far and away the most important function of the average meme is to distract and entertain us. We have a load of other options at our disposal, but we still choose to come back to the lowest common denominator of funny pictures every damn time. This is because we can trust in their entertainment; besides, if it really isn’t giving us anything we can simply put down our phones.
