Skateboarders can get a bad rap from certain parts of society, in particular those who have dated them. While a lot of this criticism is justified, it really takes away from the fact that it’s a supremely cool sport. Much like Parkour, it often takes cues from the environment around it in a unique and creative way that is nothing short of beautiful when it’s done correctly.

This is even true when it’s used in aid of petty crime, as with a recent viral video filmed on the subway in Melbourne, Australia. In it, a skateboarder bombs down the escalator and jumps elegantly over the barrier as fellow travelers look on, amazed. 

It’s fair to say that when the clip hit Twitter, almost everyone who came across it was impressed. It takes a serious amount of skill, luck, and bravery to be able to pull something like that off. The fine had to be worth it.
