I know it’s popular these days to make fun of Harry Potter fans (specifically millennials) for continuing to identify with their Hogwarts House through adulthood. It’s so simple to make hack jokes about the fact that the characteristics of each house come down to «brave, evil, smart, and nothing.» But let’s be honest: if you identify with your astrological sign, your Myers-Briggs personality type, or your enneagram number, you’re not allowed to criticize a Hufflepuff. A stranger on a dating app saying they’re «a proud Ravenclaw» might be a little cringe, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve love as much as everyone else. Hogwarts houses are vague for a reason, and one person could hypothetically belong to several. I can easily imagine a world where Ron was in Hufflepuff, Hermione was in Ravenclaw, and Harry was in Slytherin. If you have house merch and aren’t ashamed, you are the target audience for these Harry Potter memes.
